Ekiti, Federal Governments Fire Services extinguish burning industrial coal at Ido-Ekiti

A combined team of personnel from the Ekiti State Fire Service and their counterparts from the Federal Fire Service on Sunday mobilised to Ido-Ekiti to extinguish flames generated by industrial coal deposited by a faulty trailer along a major road in the area.

The General Manager of the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency Mr Oludare Asaolu, said the operation marked the third intervention by the agency in efforts to contain the situation.

Asaolu explained that the agency had taken necessary steps to contain the flames and fumes emanating from the burning industrial coal, a natural resource known to emit carbon monoxide, a colourless and odourless gas that poses serious health risks to humans.

He said that the flames had been contained as of the time of filing this report.

The general manager advised concerned stakeholders to ensure the immediate evacuation of the materials to fully bring the situation under control.
