Ekiti Exco Approves ₦4.4bn for Health, Agriculture, Flood Control Projects

The Ekiti State Executive Council at its third meeting of 2026 held on Tuesday, 14th April, approved sweeping interventions worth over ₦4.4 billion to boost healthcare, agriculture, flood control, and infrastructure. The meeting, presided over at the Executive Council Chamber, New Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti, produced eight key decisions the government says will “enhance quality of life, boost productivity, and position Ekiti as a hub for sustainable development”.

Council approved ₦60,722,540 as compensation for 15 property owners whose structures fall within the 50-metre setback along the airport entrance corridor. The payment, to be completed within one week by the Bureau of Land Services, is to meet aviation safety standards and improve the aesthetics and efficiency of the Ekiti Airport, described as a flagship project of the Oyebanji administration. Another ₦101,948,000 was approved for landowners affected by the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) Agro-Industrial Hub in Itapaji, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to handle settlement within four weeks to ensure smooth take-off.

Healthcare received the largest single vote. Exco approved ₦737,743,476.67 for solar power installations and additional renovation works across nine General Hospitals, the Government House Clinic, Hospitals Management Board Headquarters, and parts of EKSUTH. The contract, awarded to Messrs. Step Development Limited, covers tiling, roofing, theatres, air conditioning, mortuary roads, Accident & Emergency units, and remodelling of the Government House Clinic into a standard hospital. Government says the solar intervention will guarantee reliable power, improve working conditions, and upgrade patient care, with completion set for three months.

On environment, Council voted ₦197,348,500 for earth-dredging works on river courses in flood-prone Ado-Ekiti, Ikere, Irepodun/Ifelodun, and Emure LGAs. The Ekiti State Environmental Protection and Watershed Management Agency will execute it through direct labour in six months to improve water flow, protect farmlands, and reduce flood risks. Another ₦161,768,108.11 was approved to renovate the rain-damaged MSME Clinic and Ultra-Modern Garment Factory at Odua Textile, Ado-Ekiti, to safeguard equipment and sustain youth training. The Bureau of Special Projects will complete it in six weeks.

Agriculture took centre stage with three major approvals. Exco earmarked ₦500 million for a Subsidized Tractorization Programme to be handled by Messrs. Rismosh Investment Nigeria Limited, giving farmers cheaper access to tractors ahead of the 2026 planting season. Council also approved ₦1.552 billion for land clearing across 675 hectares to support the Youth in Agriculture Programme, and ₦1.101 billion for construction of warehouses in five locations under the “Bring Back Our Youths Programme” to cut post-harvest losses. Both land clearing and warehouse projects are scheduled for completion within three months.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, who signed the release on 15th April 2026, the decisions “underscore the unwavering commitment” of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to inclusive governance, infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and economic transformation. He assured that all approved projects would be implemented timely and transparently in line with global best practices and the administration’s development agenda.
