EKITI COURT REMANDS TWO PERSONS FOR ALLEGED N40.7M FRAUD

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has granted an order to remand two persons at the Nigerian Corrrectional Centre, Ado Ekiti for alleged defrauding a filling station to the tune of over N40M.

According to the exparte application, the defendants Olanipekun Olasunkanmi (34) and Adeboye Olabayo (40) were reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of Conspiracy and Fraud of N40.7M against Sadesh Global Limited on 12th day of May, 2024 in Ado Ekiti, within Ado Ekiti Magisterial District. The offences are punishable under Section 8, 1 (3) and 11 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act, 2006.

The charge was read and explained to the defendants in presence of their counsels, Dotun Omoteye and Funmilayo Akinwumi but their pleas were not taken.

The Police prosecutor, Ojo Osobu Esq. while moving the application, also in the presence of the nominal complainant’s representative, Iyanu Olumuagun Esq., Osobu prayed the court to remand the defendants pending their legal advice from office of Director of Public Prosecutions.

Delivering his ruling, Magistrate A.O. Owoleso granted the exparte application as prayed.

The defendants, Olanipekun Olasunkanmi and Adeboye Olabayo are to be remanded at the Nigerian Corrrectional Centre, Ado Ekiti for thirty days pending issuance of their legal advice by the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Magistrate ruled.

The case has been adjourned till 28th day of June, 2024 for mention.
