Many workers in Ekiti State failed to show up at their respective duty posts on Thursday after the New Year celebration.
Federal Government had declared 25th and 26th as public holidays to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day while January 1 was also declared holiday to mark New Year.
Under normal circumstances, workers are expected to return to work immediately after the New Year break but reverse was the case.
Roundoffnews.com correspondent who went round to observe the situation of things reports that some government offices were not even opened due to the absence of the staff working in the departments.
The state secretariat and that of the local government service commission which are often beehive of activities were almost a ghost of themselves as only few workers showed up.
It was also gathered that the few ones who showed up left earlier before the closing time.
In a chat, some of the workers available confirmed to Roundoffnews that the situation was not a new thing during festivity.
They confirmed that workers would start resuming fully to work on Monday.
When contacted, the Ekiti State NLC Chairman, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde confirmed that the low turn out of workers was due to the prayer organized by government to usher in the New Year which was attended by most of the workers.
He added that the prayer also ended late hence some of the workers did not return to work.
Efforts to speak with the Head of Service was not successful as she did not respond to her calls
