The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti State, the Most Reverend Felix Ajakaye has criticized the World Bank assisted educational programme in some states of Nigeria known as Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment” in which Ekiti is a beneficiary.
The Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in Nigeria aims to improve secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls aged 10-20. The project focuses on making education more appealing to girls, their families, communities, and institutions by addressing socio-cultural, financial, and infrastructural constraints.
Speaking during a special sermon to commemorate this year’s World Communications Day, Bishop Ajakaye commended the initiative but said its another form of discrimination against the boy child.
According to the Bishop, government and international agencies should give equal attention to the education and over all wellbeing of every child rather than segregating as obtained in the AGILE program.

He emphasized that a girl well trained today may end up marrying a poorly trained boy, hence all children deserve to be given proper up bringing so as to address the current decadence in the society.
The Bishop noted that a separate programme of such nature should also be set up to accommodate the boys too.
