Ekiti 2022: JDPI, NUJ, ECE Take Step to Hold Governors Accountable

The Justice, Development and Peace Initiative, JDPI, Catholic Diocese of Ekiti in partnership with the  Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council and the Ekiti Council of Elders, ECE, is set to organize a programme that will enable electorate  hold leaders  accountable.

The programme tagged, Manifesto to Agreement is designed to enable Governorship candidates interact with electorate and enumerate on their manifesto and how they intend to achieve it.

During the programme, the candidates would endorsed  their document  with a promise to fulfill them if elected.

Addressing journalists, Director JDPI Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Akingbade who spoke on behalf of the groups said the event tagged, ‘Manifesto to Agreement with the People of Ekiti State’ is designed for electorates in the state to hold leaders accountable as enshrined in the constitution.

According to Akingbade, critical stakeholders such as traditional and religious institutions, civil society organizations, artisans, market women and others are expected at the interactive session.

He noted that the candidates are to make available their concrete terms in the manifesto for the next dispensation, which will serve as an agreement with the people as a yardstick for periodic assessment if voted into office.

The group urged the candidates to utilise the platform and endear themselves to Ekiti electorates at the event, on 4th June 2022 at Pope John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Ado-Ekiti.

His words: Manifesto to Agreement Drive is an initiative brought up with the aim of holding leaders accountable as enshrined in the constitution.

“It is also designed to create a platform for electorates to interact with candidates of various political parties participating in an election, so as to understand their blue prints and how they intend to achieve such foresight.

“This development will assist the electorates to vote, out of informed decision; thus producing a quality and prepared leader that would prioritize good governance.

“The Candidates are urged to see the programme as a golden opportunity for them to endear themselves to the hearts of the people of Ekiti State whom they desire to serve freely and wholeheartedly.”
