Edo Refinery Sets to Export First Cargo, Head of Technical Operations reveals

Success Nwankwo

The Edo Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited (ERPCL) has announced plans to export its first cargo by May 2025.

In a statement released on Monday, the Head of Technical Operations, Mr. Segun Okeni, an engineer by profession, confirmed that the company had conducted a successful assessment test from September 18 to 24, 2024.

The refinery’s ongoing expansion at Koko is expected to produce a range of by-products, including Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), High Pour Fuel Oil (HPFO), Naphtha, and Fuel Gas.

“We are hopeful that by the time the plant is completed, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) will have allocated crude to the refinery through domestic crude supply obligation,” Okeni said.

He further emphasized that by May 2025, the refinery would have achieved mechanical completion, undergone a pre-start-up safety audit, and concluded its commissioning exercise.

ERPCL’s upcoming export marks a significant milestone in the country’s energy sector, with hopes to boost local refining capacity and reduce dependency on imported petroleum products.
