…holds One-Day Capacity Building Workshop for Women, Girls with Disabilities

A group, Disability Not A Barrier Initiative, DINABI, has called for the inclusion of women with disabilities into the Ekiti State Gender-Based-Violence Management Committee.
The Executive Director of DINABI, Olajide Funsho stated this on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti at the one-day capacity building workshop for Women with Disabilities on Leadership Development, GBV Advocacy and Economic Empowerment, with funding from Disability Rights Fund, DRF.
The DINABI Executive Director, who described the non-inclusion of women with disabilities in the GBV Management Committee as unfair noted that the advocacy will build their capacity to report GBV cases.
He equally explained that the capacity building workshop is targeted at empowering the women through entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy, strategic advocacy and leadership skills.
The Executive Director further disclosed that a total of 36 persons participated in the event adding that about 40 persons will be empowered with digital skills and empowerment skills in subsequent editions.
One of the resource persons, Dr. Gbenga Adesunloro, who delivered two lectures on ‘Concept of Entrepreneurship: Empowering Skills for Women with Disabilities’ and ‘Financial Literacy: Pathway to Empowerment and Resilience’ said that the participants would be able to meet their daily needs when they are financially capable.
He expressed optimism that the gains of the capacity workshop will be transformed to their work towards seeing new opportunities to increase their economic fortunes.
Also, the Special Adviser to the Ekiti State Governor on Special Education and Social Inclusion, Princess Agboola Adetun, represented by Funmilola Adedeream, SSA on Special Interest Group, said the State government has mapped out plans for Person’s With Disabilities in the State.
In the same vein, Director, Office of Disabilities Affairs, Clement Ojo, represented by Adedapo Adetunji said the office encourages NGOs to train and rehabilitate PWDs to the society.
Also, the General Secretary, Joint National Association of Disabilities, Ekiti State Chapter, Femi Oni hailed DINABI for organizing the workshop aimed at empowering women with disabilities.
He commended the State government for being supportive to PWDs in the State saying that the current administration is disability friendly governor.
