Chief Missioner of Igbomina-Ekiti Muslim Forum, Malam Salaudeen Abdulkadri, has suggested that Muslim women who wish to fast during Ramadan could consider medically delaying their menstrual cycle.

He made this statement in Ilorin during an annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Igbomina-Ekiti Muslim Forum, National Headquarters.

Abdulkadir highlighted that, as long as the process did not pose any risk to the women’s health, they could adjust their cycle to observe the entire month of Ramadan.

According to him, Islam is adaptable to various circumstances, and scholars of Islamic Jurisprudence have concluded that women can delay their cycle if they choose to do so.

He reiterated that Ramadan fasting is obligatory for believing Muslims, emphasizing its significance for both physical health and spiritual rejuvenation, reminding believers that Allah does not burden them beyond their capacity.

Abdulkadir further cautioned against cultural practices that contradict Islamic teachings, such as shouting or using Allah’s name in vain.

According to him, obedience to Allah’s commandments leads to honor and closeness to Him. He stressed the importance of reading the Holy Quran, emphasizing that Ramadan is the month dedicated to Quranic recitation.

He clarified that Ramadan fasting is not obligatory for the very sick, and those whose health is endangered by fasting are exempted from the obligation. He concluded by highlighting the uniqueness of Ramadan fasting, which is divinely prescribed by Allah and guided by Islamic principles.
