..seeks support of media Professionals
The President of the just established Customary Court of Appeal sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Justice Oluwatoyin Abodunde, said the court will enhance administration of Justice in the state.
Justice Abodunde, who spoke during a visit to the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council, noted that the court could be best described as grassroots court considering the matters under it’s jurisdiction.
According to her, the court will be attending to cases of divorce, chieftancy matters, land dispute, boundaries at local government level and other civil matters.
She noted that such development would ease the congestion often witnessed at the High Court and enable people have access to Justice at the right time.
Justice Abodunde sought the support of the media and leadership of NUJ in the task ahead.
She said: “Aside the fact that we are neighbors, you are also critical to achieving success in my assignment.
“I’m the pioneer president of the court and I will be needing your cooperation and support
“This court is mainly for grassroots, all cases held at customary courts at all local governments and communities will now come here.
“This court is critical to admitistration of Justice because we will be reducing the work load of the High court because we have jurisdiction in some matters ljust like the high court.”
The President had earlier inspected the ongoing work at the court where she expressed satisfaction and made necessary observations.
