Grace Omachoko

A 43-year-old man, Chibike Nwakedi, has been instructed by a Chief Magistrate court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, to refrain from contacting his wife, Blessing, for two weeks until their next court appearance.

Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon directed the defendant not to engage in direct communication with his wife, either in person or over the phone, unless through her lawyer or a third party.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, alleged during the arraignment that on March 3, the defendant assaulted his wife by causing her right leg to dislocate during an altercation in Ado-Ekiti.

Inspector Adeniyi argued that the defendant’s actions could incite a breach of peace, citing Sections 186 and 181(D) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021 as grounds for prosecution.

In response, the defendant’s counsel, Barrister Gbenga Ariyibi, sought bail for his client, assuring the court of his client’s commitment to the legal process and provision of credible sureties.

Chief Magistrate Dolamu Babalogbon granted bail to the defendant in the amount of N50,000, with two sureties required to provide equal amounts, and scheduled the case for further hearing on March 28.
