COMMUNITY NABS NOTORIOUS FARM PLUNDERER IN EKITI

…laments spate of robbery amid economic crisis

Members of Covenant Avenue Community at Ajebamidele in Ado Ekiti have apprehended a middle aged man for allegedly stealing several tubers of yam early hours of Saturday.

Luck ran against the suspected criminal who simply gave his name as Kunle when vigilant members of the community at about four in the morning trailed and nabbed him at the farm situated within the community.

The suspected robber has been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC at their headquarters at Ikere road and the community leadership expressed hope that the corps will do the needful and further win the trust of the people of the community.

The Chairman of the community, Mr. Femi Abileye and other members lamented incessant storming of farms in the community by marauders noting that there had been instances where over 100 tubers of yams were harvested in a single farm overnight.

Mr. Abileye said it is pathetic that farming efforts of members of the community at this critical time of economic downturn in Nigeria are being jeopardized by these plunderers.

He added that some people also come into the community under the guise of picking scraps and in the process looting valuables around and within the houses of community members.

The community leader called for more vigilance on the part of community members and increased presence of security operatives.
