…Seeks government’s intervention for members
Association of Table Water Producers of Nigeria, ATWAP, has called on the Federal Government to enact laws that will regulate the activities of water producers towards ending cholera outbreak.
The South-West/Kwara Zonal Coordinator of the association, Prince Ademola Adeyeye stated this on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti at the 2024 ATWAP South-West and Kwara Zonal Convention.
Speaking on the theme of the event: “Atajere Suitability in the Face of Economic Challenges”, the Zonal Coordinator tasked government to support the association by providing grants, soft loans and enact laws that will ensure a unified and standardized sector.
His words: “On the issue of epidemic, we have our own internal regulatory mechanisms. Nigeria water producers produce high quality water because we check the factories of our members nearly everyday. We normally advise the government to enact laws that will create this platform that whoever that is producing water in your state to be a member of this association.
“We are only begging the government to enact laws that will create a better platform in this industry. Give us grants, we don’t want palliatives. We should have funds for our raw materials, have our mini laboratories. Our plan is that every water producer should have a mini laboratory in his factory and we need government support.”
Declaring the event open, ATWAP National President, Clementina Ativie urged its members to embrace alternative power sources for optimal productivity through the use of solar energy.
According to her, “One key aspect that can contribute to the profitability and sustainability of our water buisness today, considering the economic challenges we face, is the adoption of alternative power sources in our production, such as solar energy.
“Solar energy offers a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to our power needs. By harnessing the power of the sun, we can significantly reduce our operating costs and minimize our carbon footprint.”
On his part, ATWAP Chairman in Ekiti State, Mr Ademola Oyaleke said the convention is an avenue to share ideas and address the challenges facing the industry.
He called on members of the association to continue to work together to promote the growth and development of the table water industry in Nigeria and ensuring the quality and safety of table water production.
The Commissioner of Infrastructure and Public Utilities in Ekiti State, Bolaji Aluko, represented by the General Manager of Ekiti State Water and Sanitation Agency, Osalade Ayodele called on the association to eradicate quacks in the industry.
According to the Commissioner, “The table water industry plays a vital role in having safe and clean water. We would be performing on the spot random inspection to ensure that you comply with the rules.
“We encourage your members in the State to register with us. Engage your customers on the quality of your products.”
Highlights of the event is an award of excellence to deserving recipients, who contributed to the growth of the association in the zone and goodwill messages from regulatory agencies.
