In commemoration of the 2024 Children’s day celebration, the Environmental Development and Family Health Organisation, EDFHO, a Non Governmental Organization on Monday donated free education materials to school children in a community in Ekiti State.
The event took place at Ilupeju-Ijan, Gbonyin Local Government Area where hundreds of children benefited from the intervention, sponsored by the ActionAid Nigeria, an international non profit organization committed to promoting the rights and well-being of community members including children.
According to the EDFHO Project Manager, Ogunleye Idowu, the event was aimed at promoting the rights and well-being of children, as well as raising awareness about the importance of education, and health for the children.
However, the Manager noted that the programme is not targeted at school children alone but every child in or around the community.
In an interview with the Proprietor of Bright Star Nursery and Primary school, Ilupeju-Ijan, Mr Olodi Abiodun, he said, the programme shows concern for children, adding that the community base celebration is commendable and colorful.
Speaking with Kayode Testimony, one of the parents, said “I am very happy to be one of the parents here today because this is the first time we are experiencing a children’s Day celebration in this community, I am proud of my children.”
Also, the Children expressed their happiness in participating in the event, noting that the event is priceless.
The event was greeted with Dancing Competition, musical chairs, spelling challenges, and gift giving.
