Five thousand women are to enjoin free cancer check up in Ekiti State.
The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi stated this in Ado Ekiti at the flag off of cervical cancer secondary prevention pilot project in the State.
Erelu Fayemi explained that such move was to check increasing cases of cancer patients in the State.
She said after the five thousand free beneficiaries, others would be screened with little amount of money.
In a remark, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani explained that the step was part of efforts by the Governor Kayode Fayemi led administration to ensure early detection and treatment of cancer.
He urged residents of the state to support the incoming administration in order for them to enjoy more dividend of good governance in the areas of health, education and infrastructural development.
In her lecture, Burden of Cancer, Prevention and Management, Mrs Olufunke Martin-Adetoye from Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, explained that cancer could be well managed and treated, hence the need for early treatment.
Representatives of WHO, CHAI and UNICEF at the Flagg off ceremony promised continuous support for the residents of Ekiti State to have access to quality health services delivery.
