Butcher Hacks Wife to Death in Ekiti

….family seeks justice

A meat seller, Ibrahim Sodiq, popularly known as Alfa Eleran has allegedly hacked his 25-year-old wife, Kehinde Onizeokaraga, to death during a domestic dispute in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

Sources said the incident occurred during a mediation meeting held at the residence of Lamidi Salawu, a friend of the deceased’s father, who had offered to help resolve the couple’s marital differences.

It was gathered that an argument between Sodiq and Kehinde escalated into a physical confrontation.

The suspect allegedly attacked his wife repeatedly with a machete, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death and later fled the scene immediately after the attack, while the deceased’s remains were taken away.

Speaking to journalists, the victim’s cousin, Lawrence Yusuf, alleged that Kehinde had been planning to leave the marriage after noticing that some of her clothes and underwear were missing from their home.

According to him, Kehinde had planned to travel to her sister’s residence in Idoani, Ondo State, on Thursday, September 10, but told her husband she was going for work as part of her plan to exit the marriage.

Yusuf alleged that on Wednesday morning, Kehinde was invited to Salawu’s residence, popularly known as “07”, by the man’s wife, who said her husband wanted to see her.

She reportedly went there unaware that her husband would also be present.

He said some persons, including Salawu, his wife, and the man who stood as Ibrahim’s father during their wedding, have been taken into police custody, while Sodiq remains at large.

Yusuf further alleged that the suspect fled with Kehinde’s mobile phone, which the family believes contains information that could aid police investigation.

“We want Sodiq to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command was yet to confirm the incident.
