BUREAU OF CIVIC ORIENTATION PARTNERS NUJ TO SENSITIZE EKITI RESIDENTS ON CORE VALUES, CIVIC ROLES

The Bureau of Civic Orientation and Citizenship, Ekiti State and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council have both agreed to work together with the aim of sensitizing members of the public on their Civic roles and upholding the core values of an Ekiti person.

This agreement was reached on Wednesday during a courtesy visit of the new leadership of NUJ to the Director General, Civic Orientation and Citizenship Bureau, Mrs Olabunmi Famuyiwa.

Speaking during the visit, the DG affirmed that the Bureau had drawn it work plan which focuses on aggressive advocacy and orientation programmes to change the current moral decadence in the society and educate the public on their Civic roles which include payment of tax, cleanliness, obeying traffic rules just to mention but a few.

According to her, the Bureau will need the support of the media to push the new narratives and ideas hence the need for a synergy with NUJ which is the umbrella body for the media.

She highlighted the need for residents of Ekiti to be informed and re-orientated on the values of Ekiti, stating that certain activities which has been treated as norm in the state requires redress.

Mrs Famuyiwa acknowledged the Union’s display of professionalism in the field of journalism, laying emphasis on the prompt and apt delivery of authentic information on some of the media platforms in the state.

Speaking also, The Chairman NUJ, Ekiti State Council, Comr. Kayode Babatuyi, expressed confidence that the DG of the Bureau would make positive difference in the new office following her antecedent as a veteran Journalists, disciplinarian and woman of integrity.

He emphasized that the partnership would be beneficial to both offices, hence NUJ would play it’s part effectively.
