The Gender Relevance Initiative Promotion (GRIP) has commended the management of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere, (BOUSTI), Ekiti State for expelling the two students involved in the act of bullying of a colleague in the university.
One of the students, Miss Opemiposi Precious BOLAJI with Matriculation No. 10232, a 100L Mass Communication student was seen in the footage flogging the victim while Miss Genesis OSARO, a 100L Mass Communication student with Matriculation No. 10257 provided the stick with which Gloria AJAYI was beaten.
In a statement in Ado Ekiti, the Executive Director, Gender Relevance Initiative Promotion (GRIP), Rita Ilevbare (Esq.) said the decision of the university has confirmed its Zero tolerance for GBV/bulling and other social vices in and around the campus.
The statement reads:”We acknowledge BOUESTI’s swift response to the recent video circulating the social media, where a now expelled female student and her cohort bullied another female student. This action will not only serve as deterrent to other students but would also instill sense of safety for members of the university community.
“The expulsion of the concerned students is a welcome development; a citadel of learning must be safe and devoid of all forms of violence.
“BOUSTI stands tall amongst committee of tertiary institutions in Ekiti on GBV/bulling/other social vices and this should be emulated by other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
“It is worthy of note that BOUESTI’s
opening of its doors for collaboration, learning and seeking expert advice when necessary is paying off.
She therefore restated the commitment of GRIP to continue to create better awareness on GBV.
