Building Collapse: Police Confirms Rescue Of 3

…Many feared dead

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the rescue of three persons from the building located at Unity House, Area 11 by Nkwere Street, in the Garki area of the Federal Capital Territory, collapsed on Monday night.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the building, collapsed around 8:40 p.m.

An eyewitness told newsmen that “There is a possibility that there could be some people inside the collapsed building who may have died. I saw two people being pulled out from the rubble now and taken to the hospital while rescue operations were ongoing,” he said.

In Adeh’s words: “The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, promptly moved to the scene with multiple patrol teams as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue.”

Three (3) victims were successfully evacuated from the collapsed building and rushed to the hospital for medical care, and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and FCT Development Control have taken charge of the scene for further management.

No fatalities have been reported, and the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined.
