Buhari Swears in Substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Justice Ariwoola Olukayode as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

Justice Ariwoola took the judicial oath of office at a brief ceremony before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, and witnessed by other Justices of the Supreme Court, Governors of Oyo and Ondo States, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ministers, and other members of cabinet.

Justice Ariwoola, took over in acting capacity on June 27, this year, following the resignation of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad, on health grounds.

An indigene of Oyo State, Justice Ariwoola was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court in 2011 by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

In his first interaction with the media after being sworn in, the new CJN appealed to politicians to allow the judiciary function properly, even as he apromised reforms at the apex court
