

The Catholic Diocese of Ekiti has announced the passing of its first bishop and Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun, who died at the age of 90 in the late hours of Monday, October 13, 2025.
This was revealed in an official statement issued by the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Fr. Kehinde Temitope Ajayi, and signed on behalf of the Diocese on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Bishop Fagun was born on April 17, 1935, ordained a priest on July 4, 1965, and consecrated a bishop on October 10, 1971.
The Diocese further stated that funeral arrangements would be communicated at a later date and called on the faithful to pray for the happy repose of the late bishop’s soul. It also extended prayers for God’s blessings, strength, and protection upon the Diocese, Bishop Fagun’s family, friends, and well-wishers.

The statement reads in full: “Most Rev. Michael Olatunji Fagun, aged, 90, the Bishop Emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, was called to Eternal Home in the late hours on Monday, 13 October, 2025. He was born on 17 April, 1935, he was ordained a Priest on 4 July, 1965 and consecrated a Bishop on 10 October, 1971.
“To God be all the glory for all his services to God in the Catholic Church and humanity. May God grant him eternal life.
“Funeral arrangements will be communicated later. Kindly pray for the happy repose of his soul.
“May God continue to bless, sustain, strengthen, protect and guide the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Bishop Fagun’s nuclear and extended families, friends and well-wishers. Amen. May our Blessed Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Saviour and Redeemer, always intercede for us all. Amen.” He noted.
