The Labour Party (LP) has strongly condemned the recent mass killings in Benue State, calling for an urgent deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable communities across Nigeria’s North Central region. The party described the attacks as “a fresh wave of senseless killings” and demanded a full-scale investigation and immediate prosecution of the perpetrators, regardless of their status or affiliations.
In a statement by its acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the LP expressed deep sorrow over the killing of over 100 people, including women, children, displaced persons, and security personnel. Usman emphasized that the victims were not mere statistics but innocent human beings whose lives were brutally ended, painting a vivid picture of families destroyed and communities devastated.
The party criticized the government’s failure to protect citizens, citing the continued attacks on displaced persons, burning of homes, and ambushes on security forces as evidence of a dangerous leadership vacuum. Usman stressed that the tragedy in Benue is not just a local issue but a national disgrace that should stir every Nigerian’s conscience to demand real action.
Beyond military intervention, the LP called for a coordinated humanitarian response to address the needs of survivors, including food, shelter, medical aid, and trauma support. Senator Usman urged Nigerians to move beyond empty condemnations and hold leaders accountable, assuring victims that their cries for justice will not be ignored.
