Be Innovative, Resilient in Your Duties, PS Charges Ekiti Information Officers

As part of efforts of Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission to encourage its workforce to put in their best in the service, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Mr. E B Jegede has charged the Information Officers in the local government service to be Innovative, focused and resilient in the discharge of their duties in their various stations .

The PS gave the advice on Wednesday while holding a crucial meeting with them at the NULGE hall, Ado Ekiti, the State capital.

Mr Jegede commended the Officers for doing the Commission proud in their various stations with high level of competence being displayed.

The PS charged the officers to always demonstrate professionalism with the introduction of innovative ideas and offering quality advice that could stir positive development and growth saying such move would definitely enhance their integrity.

He cautioned them against money – making mentality and urged them to contribute their best first. “It’s not always about money but your contributions. You can change the misfortune of that place to fortune. When you desire to make money in a place, there is always the consequence. And the consequence is that you will not be on top of your job because the mentality will be what to gain.

“Always be focussed, resolute to contribute your best first. When you chase money at the expense of work, you would not get the best of that circumstance. So, be encouraged to contribute your best first and leave everything for God and the situation will change positively for you”. Jegede said.

The PS admonished the officers to imbibe the culture of dressing smartly as an image makers to earn public respect. Just as he equally advised them to refrain completely from partial politics and shun the act of criticizing government’s shortcomings publicly. Adding that they should accept wherever they are being posted to in good faith and advised that they should try to get acclimatised.

On the revitalised journal, Mr Jegede urged the officers to come up with an impactful contributions that would reflect grassroots developmental strides of their chairmen .He explained that sustainability of the journal would largely rest on their constant and useful contributions .

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that meaningful progresses have been made to get information unit departmentalised.He assured the officers that the long standing dream would soon come to reality .He later took them round the fourteen Principles of Human Relations .

In his remarks , the Chairman of local government Information chapel, Mr .Ajibola Taiwo appreciated the PS for considering it necessary to dialogue with them despite his tight schedules .He commended Mr Jegede for the strides recorded within the short period he assumed office as permanent secretary .

Ajibola listed the achievements to include award of excellence bestowed on deserving workers of the commission, introduction of soft loans and foods scheme for workers, honouring of retired staff among others .

The Chairman therefore, promised the readiness of his members to contribute positively to the journal to ensure its sustainability .

Earlier, Mr.Kayode Fasakin and Mrs Bimbo Yusuf respectively have tabled the various challenges being faced by members in the service to include lack of necessary working tools to perform optimally, non inclusion in the exco members of their various local governments and LCDAs, lack of training and re- training of members and creation of department of Information .He

Reacting, the Permanent Secretary promised to organise seminal for them soonest .On the issue of inclusion in the exco members, he urged them to be patient since the issue of their department would soon be resolved . He promised to discuss the issue of provision of working tools with the HLAs for them to make it a point of concern.

In another development , a vacant position of assistant secretary of the chapel has been filled following the nomination of Mr Olatunji Sunday by Mr Oyewole and overwhelmingly supported by all members . The position became vacant sequel to emergency of former chapel’s secretary , Mrs Rotimi Funke as NAwOJ treasurer in the state chapter of the association . The development saw the elevation of former assistant secretary ,miss Yewande
to become substantive Secretary of the chapel .
