…hail chairman of Ado North Local Council Development Area , Oluwayomi Oso over developmental project
An effective local government system has been identified as cardinal to economic growth and National development of Nigeria.
To this end, council executives are expected to be more creative and think outside the box for better service delivery.
This is the opinion of panelists at a two day summit with the theme: A Broader Approach to Societal Development in the 21st Century, organized by the Ado North LCDA.
According to the experts, no nation can grow and develop optimally if the local government administration is defective saying, the council is the closest to the grassroots.
Among the panelists are, the Eyesorun of Ado Ekiti, Olori Abosede Adejugbe, the Chief Whip, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Steven Adeoye Aribasoye and two academics from the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti.
They commended the chairman of the Ado North, LCDA Hon. Oluwayomi Oso for the various initiatives put up towards the development of the council and urge him not to relent.
In a paper presentation, the Chairman, Governing Council,
Institute of Global Peace and Conflict Management, Dr. Adetunberu Oludotun called on management of various councils and LCDAs in Ekiti to apply for grants and support from International organizations and donor agencies.
He said :”The way to rebuild Nigeria nation is through grass root development. I call on Mr. Chairman, and his management team to give room for wider participation, good ideas, involve the prominent members of the society/community in developmental programs, allow inclusiveness, encourage investors to establish textile factories and other institutions that could create job opportunities.
“Let us make use of the availability of the Cargo Air-port and encourage farm product. Ado North LCDA should encourage farmers to produce what we eat and what we consume, probably show interest in exportation of goods than importation of goods.
“We should source for grants and improved primary health care delivery in the LCDA, make it a priority, our women must not die in Ado North LCDA during child birth, let us encourage NGOs to discourage use of violence, preach against domestic violence, rape.
“Above all, because we are the closest Government to the grass-root, and for grass roots development, all crimes are Local we should be our brother’s keeper, deploy all possible means and strategies to secure Ado North LCDA.
In his address of welcome, the chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Oluwayomi Oso said the programme was to brainstorm on how to fast track the development of the LCDA and make it a model.
According to Oso, development of any society requires the combined efforts of the government and the governed hence he charged people of the council to contribute their quota towards ensuring a better society.
He promised his readiness to build an equitable and just society devoid of poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, Lack of access to good
education, gender-based violence, homelessness and social exclusion.
Oso said:”I want to appreciate all our esteemed invitees for taking time out of their tight schedules to honour our invitation. It’s my prayer that God in his infinite mercy will crown your efforts will success.
“As we all know that development is a gradual process which requires collective responsibility, doggedness and zeal on the part of all stakeholders if the lofty heights and
goals of an organization is to be attained.
“It is a process that involves all levels of institutions, It therefore becomes necessary to look inward to be abreast of sectors calling for attention so as to proffer solutions to such problems in order to facilitate grassroot
development which is the essence of the mandate given to us by the people.
The programme continues tomorrow with the ground breaking ceremony of the permanent site of the LCDA and naming of some streets after notable personalities.
