Bayelsa Residents Break into Palliative Warehouse, Cart Food Items

By Akubulu Ngozi

Some residents in Bayelsa State have reportedly broken into a warehouse in Issac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa, carting away with food items reserved as palliatives by the Government.

The report of the looting was made known at the late hours of Monday, with some food items reported to have expired.

Based on the reports of the Nations Newspapers, a source, who craved anonymity, said that “Many of the food items were bad, except perhaps the water.

“Yesterday, they were cleaning the place to pave the way for new palliatives to be bought in. But some people acting on erroneous information invaded the place and started looting the food items meant to be thrown away.

“For me, the only query is why the state government should leave the food items to get spoilt when they should have given them out to the people at the right time?”

Although, the Federal Government, FG, has issued out the sum of N5 billion to each States as palliatives for the fuel subsidy removal, it is yet to be ascertained if the looted goods are part of the palliatives reserved for the fuel subsidy removal.
