…as APC Chairman begs aggrieved aspirants
By Udesinanna Stephen
The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu has called on the party’s aggrieved aspirants seeking leadership roles in the National Assembly to keep calm saying that consultations are not over.
He said this recently in a meeting with the aggrieved party members held at the party Secretariat, Abuja.
In recent time, there has been consistent debate on the position of who become Senate President and Speaker; there has also been consultations and handshake across party lines to see to the situation.
Some political commentators have sought that, the position of Senate President be shifted to the Southeast to balance power; Adamu Garba an APC Chieftain opposed such while other party members demanded it should be moved to the South South which saw Apkabio as a front man in the Senatorial race following the support thrown on him by APC Northwest Senators.
Moving on, Orji Uzor Kalu, Sani Musa, and Abdulaziz Yari are among those unhappy with the zoning formula suggested by the party as they presented a letter of grievance to Adamu during the meeting.
The Party confirmed this on its official Twitter handle, APC Nigeria, @OfficialAPCNg “The incoming 10th National Assembly leadership consultations continue. The National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, and other members of the NWC received Senators Abdulaziz Yari, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Sani Musa. They submitted their position on the zoning arrangement.”
According to Adamu, the National Working Committee (NWC) would restructure the setting to amend any perceived unfairness in the distribution of the positions to power balance within the six geo-political zones.
“Senator-elect and Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi appealed for calm, saying that the contentious issues will be resolved amicably.” the Nation Report.
Adamu said: “As chairman of the APC and members of the National Working Committee, we take responsibility. As chairman, I take responsibility for what has gone on air.
“Yes, there were no sufficient consultations with you who are contesting and it is a simple principle of democracy that you get views and opinions. But, the circumstances that we found ourselves in after the elections frustrated our desire.
“We will go back to the drawing board. We owe our party that duty to take a look at whether what was done cannot be changed; what was done needs some changes or reviews. We will take a look at what necessary compelled us to do by the grace of God.” he said
Adamu begged the aggrieved members to “Hold the fire until the last word is heard from us. We are the custodians of the party as NWC but we are not acting alone. The voice of the President-elect is essential. We must accommodate him, the best we can.”
