The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has congratulated Comrade Bosun Olabiyi Agoro on his election as the new President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), describing his emergence as a boost to the Nigerian labour movement.
ASUSS, in a statement issued on Monday by its National President, Comrade Sola Adigun, also congratulated other newly elected members of the PENGASSAN National Central Working Committee following the association’s elections held on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The union specifically congratulated Comrade Dominic Abang, elected Industrial Relations Officer; Comrade Amaoge Chukwudi, National Treasurer; and Comrade Engr. Ada Dr Mbanaso, who was re-elected Chairperson of the PENGASSAN Women’s Commission.
Adigun said the emergence of the new leadership reflected the confidence members of the oil and gas sector had reposed in the elected officers, expressing optimism that their experience and commitment to workers’ welfare would strengthen PENGASSAN.
“Your individual victories are victories for the entire labour movement. We celebrate your dedication and commitment to service,” the statement said.
ASUSS also commended the immediate past PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, for what it described as an impactful two-term tenure marked by courage, clarity and commitment to workers’ welfare.
The teachers’ union praised Osifo for his contributions to the protection of workers’ jobs, welfare and the stability of the oil and gas industry, while describing the peaceful leadership transition under his watch as a significant achievement in Nigerian trade union administration.
ASUSS wished Osifo continued success in his capacity as President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and in his future engagements within the labour movement.
The union further expressed its readiness to strengthen its relationship with PENGASSAN under Agoro’s leadership, particularly in promoting workers’ rights, quality education and national development.
“ASUSS looks forward to deepening the bond of solidarity and collaboration with PENGASSAN under the leadership of Comrade Agoro for the advancement of workers’ rights, quality education and national development,” Adigun said.
The union described the new PENGASSAN leadership as a new chapter in the association’s history and wished the entire National Central Working Committee a successful tenure.
