Aregbesola declares fidelity to wife at Osun campaign rally

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has said he has not had sexual relations with any woman other than his wife, Sherifat, since their marriage.

According to Tribune Online on Monday, Aregbesola made the declaration while speaking at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking in Yoruba, the former Osun State governor said his faithfulness to his wife was part of a personal commitment he made to God. He told supporters that although such a claim might be difficult for many men to make, he had remained faithful to his wife because of his devotion to God.

Aregbesola explained that in his devotion to God, he had never been intimate with another woman since marrying his wife, describing it as a testament that only a few men could make. He added that he had told God that by the following June, they would need to fulfil that commitment at the Government House.

The declaration came as political parties intensified campaigns across Osun ahead of the Saturday governorship election.

The poll will feature incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, who is seeking a second term, alongside the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and Aregbesola’s ADC candidate, Najeem Folasayo Salaam.

The election is scheduled to hold across the 30 local government areas of the state on August 15, 2026.
