APC Youth League Condemns Misuse of Public Funds in Oyo, Demands Investigation

The All Progressives Congress Youth League, APCYL, in Oyo State has called on the state government to judiciously utilize public funds for the growth and development of the state.

In a statement, the State Coordinator of the League Engineer Ayobami Dagilogba decried the exorbitant sums spent on motor parks and other reckless spendings by the government of Seyi Makinde.

According to him, Governor Makinde’s misuse of public funds will plunge the state into debt while calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate the state government for mismanagement of public funds.

“The Oyo State APCYL strongly condemns the attitude of Oyo State government towards the public funds particularly, regarding the exorbitant sums spent on motor parks. Such funds could have been more productively utilized in critical sectors such as the rehabilitation of public schools with modern facilities, the expansion of primary healthcare centers, the upgrading of state hospitals to meet modern standards, and the development of agriculture—an industry in which Oyo State is well known as the food basket of the Southwest.

“Furthermore, the proposed loan of ₦200 billion, which has been submitted to the State House of Assembly for approval from a financial institution, raises serious concerns. Should this loan be granted, there is no doubt that Governor Makinde is pushing Oyo State further into a debt burden that could affect generations to come. This reckless borrowing threatens the economic stability of the state and places an unnecessary financial strain on future administrations.

“The Oyo State APCYL, therefore, calls on all relevant stakeholders, both within the state and in the diaspora, to prevail upon the State House of Assembly not to approve this loan. It is also important to note that Oyo State has witnessed a significant increase in federal allocations due to the progressive policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Despite this financial boost, the people of Oyo State have yet to enjoy the dividends of democracy under Governor Makinde’s leadership.

“In light of these concerns, we urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to launch an investigation into the mismanagement of funds by the state government. Of particular concern is the allocation of enormous sums for the rehabilitation of geopolitical zone sports complexes, many of which remain incomplete despite substantial financial commitments.

“Oyo State deserves transparent governance, prudent financial management, and meaningful development. We will continue to hold the government accountable and advocate for policies that truly benefit the people.”
