All Farmers Association of Nigeria Ekiti State EXCO Sacks Chairman Adekogbon Sunday Ige

By Our Correspondent

The State Executive Council of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ekiti State Chapter, has passed a vote of no confidence in its Chairman, Mr. Adekogbon Sunday Ige, and resolved to remove him from office.
This is contained in a statement signed by Okafor Bamidele, Secretary, AFAN Ekiti State Chapter, on behalf of the State Executive Council.

The decision was contained in a formal notification letter dated September 2, 2026 and addressed to the National President of AFAN at the association’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
According to the letter, the decision followed an emergency meeting of the State EXCO, where members deliberated on issues they said were affecting the unity, administration and smooth functioning of the association in Ekiti State.
The State EXCO accused Ige of allegedly acting contrary to the AFAN Constitution and established procedures, including abandoning duly convened State EXCO meetings and allegedly holding meetings with another faction of the association, which it said had created division within the Ekiti chapter.

The council also cited alleged controversies surrounding the distribution of fertiliser in the state, claiming that when concerns were raised over the process, the chairman allegedly failed to work collectively with the State EXCO to address them and instead took the matter up against members who raised the concerns.
Another reason cited for the chairman’s removal was alleged disregard for directives from the AFAN National Office.
The State EXCO alleged that Ige disregarded a directive that all Local Government EXCOs should be dissolved and fresh elections conducted in line with the association’s procedures.
The council further accused him of allegedly using, or threatening to use, police intervention to intimidate other EXCO members in the course of carrying out their responsibilities.
It also alleged that the chairman had proceeded to constitute another State EXCO instead of working with the duly elected council, describing the development as an action that had further aggravated the leadership crisis in the Ekiti chapter.
The State EXCO additionally accused Ige of allegedly collecting ₦350,000 for AFAN Local Government election forms, which it claimed was contrary to the amount stipulated and communicated by the National AFAN Office.
The council subsequently requested the National Office to take cognisance of its resolution and provide the necessary direction and ratification in accordance with the AFAN Constitution and applicable procedures.
It also appealed to the national leadership to intervene to prevent further division, alleged unauthorised activities, intimidation or parallel leadership structures within the Ekiti chapter.

Calls were put across to the chairman several times to have his own side of the story but he did not pick the call
