Cassava farmers in Ekiti State have been trained on modern methodologies and smart ways to engage in cassava farming known as “AKilimo” with the aim of ensuring bumper harvest.
Speaking at the training, the resource person, Pastor Tosin Tayo-Adebayo explained that the programme was organised to transfer experience he gained during AKILIMO training organized by International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA for some of them.
Pastor Tayo-Adebayo listed some of the advantages of Akilimo practice of farming to include bumper harvest, increased profit, national and international recognition among other.
He noted that AKILIMO process of cassava planting would give room for weed control, proper application of fertilizerser, how to plant other products with cassava among others.
The facilitator appealed to cassava farmers to be mindful of how to get their stem, saying some stem may have bad generation.
Reacting, the representative of IITA, Mr Ogunsanmi Thompson appreciated the step taken by pastor Adebayo-Tayo Tosin for extending the knowledge gained to other cassava farmers in Ekiti State.
Some of the participants including, Mrs Olabisi Oderinde and Mr Dada Gabriel commended the organizer of the programme and promised to make use of the experience gained to improve their cassava production.
