Ajegunle-Agboro Community Embarks on Road Rehabilitation, Seeks Ekiti Govt Intervention

Residents of Ajegunle-Agboro community along Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre on Thursday began a temporary rehabilitation of the deteriorated road in the community.

Chairman of the community association, Afeniforo Folade said they embarked on the project due to the dilapidated state of the road after it was abandoned by the Ekiti State government noting that it serves as the only road leading to the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.

While appealing to the state government to come to the aid of the community, he disclosed that over a million naira that was contributed among residents of the area has been spent on the remedial work.

His words: “This is the only road that leads to the only Correctional Centre we have in Ekiti State and the road is in bad shape. We have already contacted the relevant authorities and there was no response. That is why the community decided to do a little thing.

“We called for a general meeting and tasked ourselves to raise over a million naira which we used to hire a tractor. We want the Ekiti government to assist us because of the importance of the road.”

Secretary of the community association, Alabi Sunday urged the state government to intervene saying that “we have been hearing about the works of the governor and I implore him to have mercy on our road. We have been suffering on this road and we have written several letters and nothing has been done here.”

In the same vein, resident of the community and Chairman of the committee on the road construction, Engr. Adeniyi Adenipekun decried that the community have been neglected by the state government and urged Governor Biodun Oyebanji to redeem his image by coming to their aid.

“It is quite unfortunate that the state government has abandoned us. We are the ones doing the road by ourselves and even the electricity. I felt very embarrassed when I saw some people that came for land use charge despite the fact that we are the ones doing everything for ourselves.

“Governor Oyebanji should redeem himself because we are not a small community. This is a community that has over 20,000 people and we have our voters cards. We are not feeling government impact in this area. It is never too late and this is not a federal road but state road.”
