The Association of Butchers in Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti State has disassociated itself from Ibrahim Sodiq, popularly known as Alfa Eleran who has been accused of hacking his 25-year-old wife to death.
In a statement by the Chairman, Mr. Oluborode Omotosho and Secretary, Mr. Tirimisiyu Olayiwola, the association said Sodiq is not a registered member.
The statement explained that Sodiq is an Islamic cleric who only visits the abattoir once a month to offer prayers for which he is paid.
The officials noted that the association keeps proper records of members, with each registered member issued a unique identification number.
They urged the public not to link Sodiq with the association or its members.
The association described its members as responsible citizens and condemned the alleged act, saying it does not support or condone such behaviour.
“We call on members of the public to disregard any claim suggesting that the suspect is a registered member of the Association of Butchers in Ado-Ekiti,” the statement added.
