
….says it’s a measure to cushion effect of subsidy removal

The Chairman, Ado Central Local Council Development Area of Ekiti State, Engr. Toyin Ojo has empowered the elderly in the local government with cash gifts.
The event which is a part of the Social Security Scheme took place on Thursday in Ado Central LCDA Secretariat, recording 150 elderly as beneficiaries, a 50% increase from the program in the previous year.
Speaking with newsmen, Engr. Ojo disclosed that the initiative, which was launched last year, aims to provide monthly stipend for the elderly, and also help to alleviate the effect of subsidy removal on the people, as well provide them with alternative to cater for their needs.
He pointed out that building on the progress of the program from the previous year called for the need for a review of the initiative,hence, the subsequent increase in the number of beneficiaries and stipend given.
“We thought that we needed to add something to what we are giving them and also increase the number. That is why today we are giving 150 people, a 50% increment from what we have given for the last one year.
“We have done that so that they will be able to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal and also to assist the aged at least to have something to put on their table.”

Engr. Ojo further commended the State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji for his support towards the program and hopes to achieve other projects still in the pipeline.
Also speaking, the Ado-Ekiti All Progressives Congress, APC Chairman, Michael Akinleye lauded the effort of Engr. Ojo saying that the program is one of the many programs he has embarked on geared towards the good of the society and for the progress of the party.
In the same vein, the Chairman Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency, Dr. Sunday Ibitoye appreciated Ojo for the program saying it is one of the Governor’s agenda to empower the elderly in the state, adding that bringing same initiative to the grassroot is an applaudable one.
He also highlighted other projects by the chairman which includes; the opening of lockup shops, grading of roads and many others.
Some of the beneficiaries hailed Engr. Ojo for the program, saying it was a timely and well-directed initiative and further wished him well in subsequent projects.
