The candidate of the ADC contesting for EKiti North Senatorial Seat at the National Assembly , Prince Funso Ayeni has condemned the attack on his campaign office in Ido Ekiti, calling on political actors and their supporters to shun violence and allow peaceful political competition in Ekiti State.
Prince Ayeni made the call when he visited the campaign office, which he said was commissioned about two days earlier, to inspect the damage.
He said his visit was not merely to assess the damaged property but also to draw attention to what he described as a development that should concern every peace-loving citizen of Ekiti State, particularly residents of the Ekiti North Senatorial District.
According to him, irrespective of the circumstances surrounding the incident, political disagreement must never become a pathway to destruction, intimidation or violence.
The ADC senatorial candidate said Ekiti State was too educated, politically conscious and knowledgeable to allow a culture of political violence to take root, urging stakeholders to learn from past experiences in other parts of the country.
He said the destruction of campaign materials and political properties in some states had, in the past, contributed to heightened political tension, attacks and loss of lives during electoral periods.
Prince Ayeni therefore called on relevant security and law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and establish the facts surrounding the damage to the campaign office.
He stressed that political competition should be centred on ideas, programmes, records and the quality of service politicians intend to offer the people, rather than the destruction of opponents’ property or political offices.
Prince Ayeni reaffirmed his commitment to promoting a peaceful, issue-based and responsible political environment in Ekiti North and across the state.
The politician urged his supporters and followers in the Ekiti North Senatorial District to remain calm and resist any temptation to take the law into their own hands.
He said, “Let us disagree without destroying, let us compete without violence, and let us ensure that the 2027 political season is remembered for ideas and accountability, not intimidation, destruction or bloodshed.”
Ayeni also appealed to political stakeholders to work towards preserving peace in the state, saying the people of Ekiti deserved an environment where political differences could be expressed without violence.
He concluded by calling on his supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding as the political season progresses, while praying for the continued peace and development of Ekiti North and the state as a whole.
