A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Okeruku Ward, Ikere Local Government, Prince Abiodun Adetimehin, popularly known as Omo’luabi, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 in the 2027 general election.
Adetimehin made his declaration during an expanded meeting of ADC leaders held at the party secretariat in Okeosun, Ikere Ekiti. He also met with ward and local government leaders of the party in Ekiti South West Local Government Area at Ilawe Ekiti.
Addressing party stakeholders, the aspirant promised to deliver quality and inclusive representation, stressing that his leadership would be consultative and people-driven.
“I am not coming to represent you in isolation. I will always return to you to ask what you want, and together we will push for policies and projects that truly reflect the needs of our people,” Adetimehin said.
He added that his ambition was rooted in service and a commitment to improving the welfare of constituents across the federal constituency.
At the Ikere meeting, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and ADC leader, Olusola Eleka, commended Adetimehin for his courage and readiness to serve, revealing that he had personally encouraged him to join the race.
“Prince Adetimehin has demonstrated courage and commitment. I encouraged him to take this step because I believe he has the capacity to represent our people effectively,” Eleka stated.
Eleka also urged party members to remain committed and actively participate in party activities.
“Regular attendance at meetings is crucial. I am confident that when ADC candidates win elections, they will prioritise the people and deliver on their mandates,” he added.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Okeruku ward in Ikere local government, Hon Ilesanmi Kayode argued that it was imperative that aspirants from the local government worked together to present a consensus candidate so as to a place the local government in better stead in the contest which involved three local governments of many towns.
Similarly, at the Ekiti South West Local Government meeting in Ilawe Ekiti, the party chairman, Hon. Asebioge, welcomed Adetimehin into the race and charged him to prioritise the welfare of the people if elected.
“We are glad to receive you and your team. As you pursue this ambition, always remember that the welfare of the people must come first when you get to the National Assembly,” he said.
Ward coordinators for Adetimehin across the eleven wards of the constituency were also present at the meetings, pledging their support for his aspiration and readiness to work for his victory.
Some of the coordinators, including Hon. Aturamu Tayo, Fosoyin Dele, and Ojo Idowu, described the aspirant as a man of capacity and compassion, noting his longstanding commitment to the party.
“Prince Adetimehin is a man of immense capacity and a kind heart. He stood by the ADC when many ignored the party,” they said.
They recalled that Adetimehin was the ADC candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 during the 2019 general election at a time when the party had little visibility, arguing that he deserves the ticket as a matter of consensus.
“He carried the party’s flag in 2019 when no one gave ADC a chance. For us, this is about fairness, compensation, and continuity. He deserves the candidacy,” the coordinators added.
The declaration marks the formal entry of Adetimehin into the race, setting the stage for political activities within the ADC ahead of the next general election in Ekiti State.
Prince Abiodun Adetimehin Omo’luabi was the ADC flagbearer for the Ekiti South Federal Constituency 1 during the 2019 election.
