The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, has reached out to the governors of the South-West region, seeking their authorization to take action against the perpetrators behind the killings of three Yoruba monarchs.
In an open letter addressed to Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday, Adams expressed his readiness to confront what he referred to as the enemies of Yoruba land, stressing the importance of obtaining permission from the governors before proceeding.
Recent incidents include the tragic deaths of two Ekiti monarchs, namely the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, with the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaping a similar fate.
Additionally, the Olukoro of Koro in Kwara State, Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, was fatally shot by assailants who invaded his palace.
Adams sounded the alarm, highlighting the peril facing the Yoruba race, with more than 60 million Yorubas across the South-West, South-South, and North-Central regions of Nigeria feeling vulnerable.
Drawing attention to previous tragedies, Adams recalled the killing of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi, in Ondo State in 2020 by suspected herdsmen, shortly after a meeting with the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Adams emphasized the unprecedented nature of the recent events, noting that never before in Yoruba history had three Obas been slain within the span of four days.
