AU Commends Sudan Forces for Signing Short-Term Ceasefire

By Udesinanna Stephen

The African Union, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs Peace and Security, Amb. Bankole Adeoye has commended the commitment by Sudan’s Arm Force (SAF) and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in the signing of a short-term ceasefire, saying that it is a welcome development.

As obtained from the official Twitter handle of the AU Commission, @AUC_PAPS, the Commissioner, commended the conflicting groups while briefing the United Nations Security Council on steps taken by AU to halt the conflict.

It could be recalled; Roundoffnews gathered that there are two leaders in the clash; Sudan’s Arm Force (SAF) leader, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also referred to as “Hemetti,” who was deputy to the above SAF leader when they both overthrown a civilian regime in 2019.

As a civilian government is restated who becomes Boss is now the argument between the two heads as Hemetti is not ready to be a second man this time; this has led to the clash in Sudan and many countries evacuating their citizens.

According to the AU Commissioner, a de-escalation plan is the next phase in the coming days “A comprehensive permanent silencing of the guns now! is the only remedy for the people of Sudan!” He added.

Also, he said, “The African Union remains committed to supporting an inclusive political process, which would allow for the full representation of the voices of all sectors of Sudanese civil society and political parties.”
