C-19RM/RSSH Advocacy Group seeks proper waste management system in health facilities

The State Advocacy Group working on the Global Fund C-19RM/RSSH Grant wants management of health facilities to always ensure proper disposition of wastes generated in line with global standards.

This was part of issues raised during a visit to the State Coil Chain Store, SCCO, Ekiti, at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH). Mr. Bamisaye Abiodun Tuyi

The Chairman, Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition, ACOMIN, in Ekiti State, Sir Olu Ogunrotimi who spoke on behalf of the group expressed concern over the way some health facilities were often littered with used medical equipment and other wastes which he said was unhealthy.

Sir Ogunrotimi made reference to Okeyimi health centre where the group observed a Heap of used safety boxes at the entrance of the facility noting that such practice is injurious to both the patient and staff.

He called for immediate correction to the observation adding that health workers should be regularly trained on international best practices.

Responding, the State Coil Chain Store, SCCO, Mr. Bamisaye Abiodun Tuyi appreciated the advocacy group for the observation with a promise that the situation would be corrected.

He noted that the hospital at Okeyimi and other places lacked adequate storage  facilities adding that the UNICEF recently donated an incinerator to them which he promised would be properly put to use.
