In commemoration of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC 50th anniversary, the State Coordinator, NYSC Ekiti, Mrs. Mary Nenna Chikezie has sought the continual cooperation of Nigerians and government functionaries to break the barriers of unity in the country.

She stated this today in Fajuyi Pavilion Ado-Ekiti after
a rally with Corp members within the state capital in respect to the commemoration of the Scheme Golden Jubilee.

She said, “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, I enjoined meaningful individuals, government
functionaries to continually cooperate with the scheme in unity of the country.

According to her, the NYSC scheme which was established on 22nd May, 1973 has been a useful initiative to
engage, mold, and transform the youths adding that, “The number of youths the Scheme has mobilised, integrated, and empowered over the years is an indication that the scheme has achieved most of its core objectives.”

Speaking on the measures the scheme has established to counter unemployment she said, NYSC has promoted among others self-reliance through its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

Furthermore, during an interactive session with Roundoffnews, she said “We are going to bring in more diversification in different areas; in the area of SAED we are going to bring in digital skill-set to impact corps members in camp and off camp; this is one of our ways of addressing the unemployment that is affecting the country today.”

In the area of health development, she revealed that, Corps Doctors have been mobilised to remote areas of the
nation to ensure that members of the society have access to medical facilities without stress, disclosing the quarterly Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, HIRD established by the Scheme.

She also stated that NYSC has utilised its Community Development Service, CDS programme to project development in the nooks and crannies of the nation.

Moving on, Mrs. Nenna reflected on the collaboration between the Scheme and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) where corps members participated in elections that facelifted the electoral system of the country.
