The Centre for Transparency Advocacy, CTA, has partnered with stakeholders for quality, transparent and accountable electoral processes in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The Executive Director, Faith Nwadishi, called on the relevant stakeholders to play their part in ensuring a hitch free exercise and act according to the confines of the law.
The advocacy programme held in Ado-Ekitil, on Tuesday, had the Nigeria Police Force, Ekiti State Command, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Inter-Parties Advisory Council, IPAC, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, the traditional institutions, etc.
Nwadishi encouraged more female participation in politics saying, “We need to do more as women. When a child takes the 14th position out of 16th, is that a good position? Therefore, we have to encourage more women to take the challenge.
“There were 35 contestants in 2018 with 91 polictical parties and now in 2022, we have 16 contestants with 18 political parties, which include just 2 female participants.”
Also, the Chairman, IPAC, Ifedayo Iyaniwura recommended a supplementary plan in case there is a malfunctionality of the BVAS ( Bi-Modal Voters Accreditation System), suggesting that electoral processes at the polling unit of a failed BVAS be postponed to ensure a fair and credible election.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Morounkeji Adeshina, represented by SP Olu Victor Babayemi, expressed profound appreciation for the recognition noting that NPF would continue to partner with every individual whose role is to ensure a credible election.
The CP said, “Our personnels have been trained on what is expected of them about the electoral activities and we have been engaging the youth on the need to uphold credibility and peace.
“We have engaged our intelligence arm to sieve the community and get information, so we assure you that the election will be free, fair and credible.”
His Royal Majesty, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon Ayodele, the Onisan of Isan Land and the Chairman of Obas, represented by His Royal Majesty, Ezekiel Babatola Oladele, Olupole of Ipole Iloro-Ekiti, stated that their people have been counseled against being deployed as thugs.
