Following the opposing statements of the literary intellectuals in Nigeria, Prof Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Adichie in line with the controversy from the just concluded presidential elections, Former Senator Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has said that Nigeria Great Literary Giants are now in the ring of Nigeria’s political battle.
He made this statement today via his Official Twitter Account, @ShehuSani where he said it is a positive development to the State and one which other African Countries have no privilege to.
It could be recalled that, the Noble Laureate, Wole Soyinka, during an interactive session with News Arise, frowned against the speech and reactions of the Deputy Presidential Candidate, Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed as he described it as unbecoming, fascist and one that alienates the people.
He said, “nearly the totality of Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s statement was unbecoming, dictating to the supreme court. It is a fascistic language which alienates the people, It is unacceptable and I refuse to be a part of it.”
On the contrary, Chimamanda Adichie opined through an article titled,’ Nigeria’s Hollow Democracy’ which was directed to the President of America, Joe Biden, that the election was disastrous, hence, challenged the President for congratulating the President-elect.
In line with these outbursts and contrary positions, the Senator started that” the opposition supporters are now going after Prof Wole Soyinka while the ruling party supporters are going after Chimamanda Adichie .The great literary giants are now in the ring of Nigeria’s political battle. This is a positive development other African countries are not privileged to have.”
