Ekiti Journalists hail Oyebanji over comprehensive renovation of press centre

Journalists in Ekiti State have commended the State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for his exemplary leadership and how the state has developed rapidly barely five months into his tenure.

Specifically, they lauded the Governor for fulfilling his promise to renovate their press centre, a development they said showed the Governor is committed to the development of every sector and professional groups in the state.

The Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, Ekiti State, Mr Raphael Ogbonnaiye gave the commendation on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing renovation of the Chapel’s Press centre being funded personally by the Governor. describing him as a promise keeper and a rare gift to humanity.

Ogbonnaiye stated that the Governor had in February seen the deplorable state of the centre and promised to give it a facelift in addition to improving their welfare. He said they were pleasantly surprised when a few days after the visit, the Governor sent an architect to commence work on the building which also houses the Boundary Commission.

According to him, “Let me first of all commend Governor Oyebanji for his exemplary leadership and for his intervention in our plight.

“A lot of people have been saying that Governor Oyebanji is a listening Governor and we can attest to that.

“On 1st February, the Governor was in this old Governor’s office complex for a meeting with traditional rulers. We requested an interview with him after the meeting and after granting the interview he said he would like to see our Press Centre, which is just a walking distance.

“When he saw the deplorable condition of our office, he promised to renovate it for us and he has done it.

“If you look at this place, you will know that things have changed and it has already become a model. We also commend him for the great work he is doing in the state and we implore him to continue to give dividends of democracy to the people.

“Our work as Journalists will continue without bias because, we will report what we see and commend who we are supposed to commend. He has done well for us and he is doing well for the people and we are very appreciative of his kind gesture, because he told us that he is going to use his personal resources and he has done that.

The Chapel Secretary, Victor Akinkolue itemized the work done to include re-roofing of the office block, floor tiling, installation of two units of air conditioner, and painting of the office among others, fixing of new windows and doors as well as a new conference table.

Also baring his mind to the renovation work, the Director of Finance and Accounts of the State Boundary Commission, Mr Oluwole Afuye, whose office is domiciled in the same building m, expressed his appreciation to the Governor for extending the renovation work to the commission’s office. He said the good gesture of the Governor would improve the effectiveness and efficiency of workers of the commission.
