By Roundoffnews

Youths in Ikole and Oye Local Government Areas in Ekiti-North Senatorial District, has expressed displeasure over the performances of their representatives holding political offices.

The youths stated this in Ilupeju-Ekiti, on Monday, during a one-day event organized to X-ray the performance of their leaders and tagged: “Joint Meeting on deliberation on  way forward for Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency.”

The youths in their various contributions sought for accountability from some of their leaders, whom they alleged have under-performed, while applauding the efforts of few through their empowerment programmes.

The youths including, Oni Adeyinka, Babatunde Oluwaseyi From Otunja Ekiti, Akomolafe Ìdòwú Daniel from Ilafon Ekiti and  Onipede Oluwaseun Gboyega from Itapa said the action of the leaders subjected people of the constituency to hardship and limited the progress of the constituency compared to other areas.

Among the leaders scored low by the youths are the leader of Government Business at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan and the Senator Representing Ekiti North Senatorial District Olubunmi Adetunbi while the lawmaker representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency One, Peter Owolabi was commended for youth empowerment,  facilitation of develoomental projects and always visiting the constituency for interaction.

He was also commended for always supporting every programme organized by youths and different groups.

Meanwhile, Hon. Toba Fatunla, President Ikole LGA Youths, said the event is geared towards sensitising the youths on the need to shun electoral violence.

He said: “Part of what we are doing today is to sensitise people on the electoral process and youths involvement. We have seen that youths are used and dumped as electoral tools.

“They can also be voted for. Nobdoy should hire a youth as a thug. We are sensitising them to come out and vote, partake in the electoral processes to make sure their votes count and not to engage in thuggery or anything that will kill them young.”

His counterpart from Oye LGA, Engr. Femi Fagbemi, charged them to get their voters card and exercise their franchise without been induced, while pleading with the leaders to provide true representation at every strata of governance.

In his words: “This is the first time we are gathering them. We are trying to sensitise our youths on the upcoming election on the need to for them to get their voters card and to vote and the right person to vote for.

“There are some of them that are not representing us very well. Some of them that did well, we want them to do more. We still want to plead with people that are contesting to have people’s interest at heart.

“My advice to the youths is not to allow themselves to be used for thuggery. How many of them are using their children for thuggery? We are telling them not to allow anybody use them for thuggery and stand on what they are and remain focused.”

When contacted, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan said he empowered youths and built a library while Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi promised to revert.
