2023: Cash Crunch, Petrol Scarcity Won’t Affect Poll – INEC

…distributes sensitive materials in Ekiti

By Precious Oham

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Ekiti State, Professor Abayomi Salami has assured electorates in the state that the issues of cash crunch and petrol scarcity won’t affect the general elections.

He said this, on Wednesday, in Ado-Ekiti, during the distribution of sensitive materials to the 16 local government areas of the state for Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The distribution was supervised by all security agencies, including the Paramilitary, Police, Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and the Department of State Service (DSS).

He said: “We have received all the sensitive and non-sensitive materials. We are distributing all the sensitive materials to all the LGAs in the state. We have everything we need at the polling units and every part of the state.

“I want to assure you by the grace of God, come Saturday this week, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold and by this time next week, a new President will be declared and the elected members of the National Assembly would have been declared.

“I want to assure you that the cash crunch will not affect the mobilization and all the activities of INEC because as of now we have received the necessary cash that we need to conduct this election and in terms of logistics for fuel, we also have adequate fuel for all our activities. We are good to go.”
