DON WANTS BETTER FUNDING OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS, CAUTIONS AGAINST INCESSANT STRIKE

Federal and State governments have been advised to invest more in the education sector of the country in line with international standard.

This form part of the submissions of a professor of educational management from Ekiti State University, Olajire Adeola Adegun while delivering the sixty seventh Inaugural Lecture of the Institution titled” Debacle and Conundrum in Education: Management for the Paradgim Shift”.

Professor Adegun said that twenty six percent baseline of the budgetary allocation to education should be adhered to while the allocation should be released promptly, saying this would reposition the country’s education sector for good.

The Don also called on parents, Alumni association, philanthropists, corporate bodies, and individuals to support schools and institutions financially to complement government’s efforts.

Professor Adegun called on managers of education especially in higher institutions to think outside the box by exploring both national and international opportunities to get fund for their various institutions.

She appealed to the managers to ensure that all students in their care were well protected and provided with necessary facilities that could enhance teaching and learning.

The Don lamented over the poor infrastructure in Nigerian tertiary institutions, saying most schools lacked conducive environment for teaching and learning, non availability of teaching materials among others, saying such challenges should be addressed.

The professor of educational management also advocated policy and regulations against cultism, terrorism, indecent dressing and behavior in higher institutions which must adequately be enforced to maintain a safe, deciplined,modest and secured school environment.

In a remark, the vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, professor Edward Olanipekun commended the brilliant submissions of professor Adeola Adegun, saying her submissions were apt.

Professor Olanipekun urged concerned institutions and government to make use of the recommendations suggested by the inaugural lecturer to reposition the country’s education sector to meet up with global standard.
