Fire has destroyed property worth millions of naira and gutted numberless of buildings in Awedele Market, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to the Chairman of Butchers in the market, Adegoke Wasiu, he said the cause of the fire outbreak which struck around 12 noon is unknown because the buildings are abandoned shops owned by Traders who refuse to claim responsibility.
“We can’t really tell the cause of the fire. Lots of uncompleted shops were burnt and I think it’s because people are not coming to take responsibility of the shops hence the fire outbreak.”
According to a Fire Fighter who craved anonymity, he said the fire service has been curtailing the fire for hours to make sure it didn’t spread to other shops.
At the press time of filing this report, the fire is yet to be curtailed totally.
