Registrars of various Higher Institutions in Nigeria have been urged to digitalise their activities and records in line with global trends.
A former Registrar of Ekiti State University Ado-Ekiti, Dr Omojola Awosusi gave the advice while delivering a lecture at the opening of the 85th Regular meeting of Conference of Registrars of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria, COREG holding at Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti.
Dr. Awosusi explained that the era of keeping paper records had faded away, hence Registrars must be familiar with how their job is being done globally.
The Former Registrar also identified creative thinking, effective communication, high productivity and mastery of governance tools as some of the needed qualities for Registrars to function well.
Declaring the 85th regular meeting of the Registrars open, the Chairman, Governing Board of Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo advised various higher institutions to be innovative to improve their Internally Generated Revenue to cope with their financial challenges.
The Rector of the institution, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye urged the Registrars to use the meeting to discuss on better ways of discharging their duties in line with global best practices.
The Chairperson, Conference of Registrars of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria, COREG, Hajiya Rakiya Usman-Maleka said the meeting afforded them the opportunity to share experiences on problems and general administration of the institutions.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Mrs. Kehinde Ekanem described Registrars as pillars in the administration of tertiary institutions across the world, hence they should be given more power to function optimally.
