Police Foil Attempt by Thugs to Burn Ekiti Assembly Complex

Officers of the Ekiti State Police Command have prevented some suspected thugs who attempted to attack and set ablaze the Ekiti State House of Assembly complex in Ado this morning.

The suspected hudlums were said to have attempted to gain access into the Assembly complex with the believe that the police officers who had earlier laid siege there since the past four days had gone.

The hudlums were armed with cutlasses and petrol which they wanted to use to set the building on fire.

The policemen on ground stopped them and recovered the fuel and some of the cutlasses abandoned by the fleeing suspected arsonists.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State Police Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, said that the invasion happened in the wee hours of Friday.

He explained that the development had confirmed the intelligence report received by the Command about a week ago, which necessitated the deployment of additional personnel to secure the Complex.

DSP Abutu said investigation had commenced with the aim of arresting the suspects, urging the public to supply credible intelligence in that regard and to be security conscious.
