ADC rally support for Atiku, Senate candidate Akinyemi in Ado-Ekiti

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State has intensified its mobilisation for the 2027 general elections, urging residents to support former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and its Ekiti Central Senatorial candidate, Mr. Victor Akinyemi.

The party made the call during a road walk rally held in Ado-Ekiti, which started from Ejigbo area, passed through Okesha and ended around the Fayose Market area of the state capital.

The exercise was aimed at creating awareness about the party’s candidates and mobilising support ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Speaking during the rally, former Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Eleka, expressed confidence in the ADC’s leadership despite the recent Federal High Court judgment nullifying the leadership of the David Mark-led faction and the process that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate.

Eleka described the ruling as a kangaroo judgment, insisting that the party remained undeterred and would challenge the decision through the appropriate legal channels.

He argued that the Supreme Court had earlier affirmed the legitimacy of the David Mark-led leadership, questioning how another court could issue a conflicting decision.

The former deputy governor urged party members and supporters not to be intimidated by the development, adding that they had been prepared for any challenges that might arise during the political process.

He also thanked party members for their participation in the campaign and expressed confidence that the Ekiti State Government would not resort to actions capable of intimidating opposition members.

Also speaking, the ADC Chairman in Ado Local Government and Director of Akinyemi’s campaign, Mr. Abdullahi Awolokun, said the road walk was an awareness exercise organised in the absence of the senatorial candidate, who was away from the state.

Awolokun said Akinyemi was expected to return to Ekiti from overseas the following week for more extensive campaign activities, adding that the party would intensify its mobilisation when he arrived.

He expressed confidence in the chances of Atiku and Akinyemi, saying Nigerians were dissatisfied with the economic situation and what he described as the unfulfilled promises of the All Progressives Congress-led administration.

He cited the rising cost of petrol and its effect on the prices of food items, particularly tomatoes, as some of the challenges confronting Nigerians.

Awolokun also questioned the sustainability of the Federal Government’s wage support for workers, arguing that temporary interventions could not adequately address the country’s economic difficulties.

He appealed to residents of Ekiti Central to support Akinyemi, whom he described as a credible alternative capable of representing their interests at the Senate.

The ADC Youth Leader in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodeji Lawal, also called on residents to support the party, expressing optimism that Atiku and Akinyemi would emerge victorious in the elections.

Similarly, the Ado Local Government Women Leader of the party, Mrs. Folake Pius, said the women were mobilising support for Akinyemi because of his promises to improve the living conditions of his constituents.

Pius said the senatorial candidate had pledged to empower women and support unemployed residents through business funding and other interventions if elected.

She expressed confidence in his ability to fulfil the promises, urging women and other residents to support his ambition.
